Starting a meditation practice can feel daunting, but it doesn't have to be complicated. The key is consistency and finding what works for you. Begin by setting aside just 5-10 minutes each day, perhaps first thing in the morning or before bed. Find a quiet space where you won't be disturbed.

## Finding Your Posture

You don't need a special cushion. Sit comfortably on a chair with your feet flat on the floor, or cross-legged on the floor with support if needed. Keep your back relatively straight but not rigid, allowing your body to be relaxed yet alert. Let your hands rest gently in your lap or on your knees.

## Simple Breath Focus

A simple way to start is by focusing on your breath. Gently close your eyes or soften your gaze. Bring your attention to the sensation of your breath entering and leaving your body. Notice the rise and fall of your chest or abdomen. You don't need to change your breathing; just observe it.

## Managing Expectations

Your mind wander – that's perfectly normal! When you notice your thoughts drifting, gently acknowledge them without judgment and guide your focus back to your breath. The practice isn't about having an empty mind, but about noticing when it wanders and returning. Be patient and kind to yourself. Even a few minutes of mindful breathing can make a difference.
